Project
Actual forest cover in Aceh is almost 3 million hectares (2019) and includes irreplaceable protected nature areas; the Leuser Ecosystem. This ecosystem of 2.6 million hectares is important for the life-support system for the Sumatran orang-utan, Sumatran rhino, Sumatran elephant, and Sumatran tiger.
IDH has defined a project to assess the feasibility of a profitable forest conservation. This includes establishment of partnership between a private buffer zone enterprise, IDH , Yayasan Forum Konservasi Leuser (FKL), local communities/producers and the private sector to jointly protect the natural forest in combination with (agro)forestry and sustainable agriculture.
Our role
Form International is conducting a pre-feasibility study on the Aceh Restoration project concept leading to a high-level business model. The goal is to scale sustainability impacts in the area through business and investment opportunities. The project will aim on large-scale restoration along the border of the Leuser ecosystem. The focus will be restoration of land but also generation income for local communities.
Form International will provide information on the proposed project design including clear understanding of the capacities and possible roles and contributions in the buffer zone management company for potential stakeholders and partners.
