Project
Bringing all promising aspects of sustainable plantation management fully into play, requires well trained managers and capable staff for reforestation companies and governmental organizations. To meet these specific needs, Form Ghana requested for a NFP-Tailor Made Training (TMT) financed by EP-Nuffic in 2016. This course was developed and given by a consortium of University of Applied sciences Van Hall Larenstein, Form international and CMO Forestry Operations Africa. 32 young forestry professionals of Form Ghana, Forestry Commission of Ghana, APSD, Miro Forestry, and other related institutes in Ghana, were trained on sustainable commercial reforestation management. Because of its great success and large interest from these other West African forestry companies, Form International and Form Ghana now organize a follow-up training in 2017. In order to stimulate large scale reforestation in Africa we need to capacitate personal to grow higher-up in management positions. Therefor this advanced course will zoom in on a selection of important topics taught during the introduction course, giving advanced, in depth, and hands-on trainings.
Our role
Form international provided trainings on sustainable plantation management, commercial agroforestry, financials of a plantation, certification, carbon credits, and risk management. Next to that, Form international had an overall coordinating role during the training. To follow up on this initial training, Form Ghana discussed the necessity of bringing expertise into the country regarding plantation forestry with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) through implementing elements of the tailor-made-training in existing curricula.
