Peter van der Hout – Senior Forestry Expert – Associate Consultant
“Conservation and sustainable management of forested landscapes has always fascinated and intrigued me – be it the tropical rain forests of Guyana and Suriname where I started my professional career, or temperate forests in Europe where I carried out several FSC audits. Over the years I learned how important it is to involve and engage local communities, local government agencies and other stakeholders. Only together we can make conservation and sustainable forest management happen. Form International opens a new window of opportunities to me while my 32 years of professional forestry experience worldwide can hopefully support my Form International team members, thus creating a win-win situation.”
Peter worked for 15 years in Guyana as researcher (PhD and Postdoc) and project director before embarking on a career as independent consultant, which has taken him to 20 different countries worldwide. Peter is a specialist in Reduced Impact Logging, forest inventory and forest management planning. His portfolio further includes FSC® forest management and chain of custody certification – having conducted 25 FSC Forest Management audits in 10 countries worldwide, the EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade programme, strengthening and implementing forest policy including developing regulations and guidelines (Codes of Practice), REDD+ programmes, capacity building and institutional support in RIL, and project design and management.
