Nanno Kleiterp – Chairman
Since February 2017 Nanno Kleiterp is the first independent Chairman of the European Development Finance Institutions (EDFI), the association of 15 European Development Banks, with a total investment portfolio of almost € 50 billion.
Nanno is also Chairman of the Board of Director of the &green.fund, which started its activities in July 2017. &Green invests in commercial projects in agricultural production value chains in order to protect and restore tropical forests and peatlands and make agriculture more inclusive and sustainable.
Nanno serves on the advisory board of Commonland, which mission is to contribute to a largescale landscape restoration industry, aligned with international policies and guidelines.
He is senior fellow of the World Resource Institute, a global research institute , that focuses on six critical issues at the intersection of environment and development: climate, energy, food, forests, water, and cities and transport.
He is member of the Board of the van Leer Foundation, a privately endowed charitable organisation established in 1979 by Oscar van Leer. It performs the holding function for all the Van Leer charitable activities and as such supervises its investment portfolio and the governance of its charitable activities. The Van Leer charitable activities are currently embodied
in the Van Leer Group Foundation in The Hague, the Bernard van Leer Foundation in The Hague, the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute and the Jerusalem Film Center.
Until October 2016 Nanno Kleiterp served on the Management Board of the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) for 21 years, first as Chief Financial Officer and from 2008 to 2016, as Chief Executive Officer. He started his career with FMO in 1987 as an Investment Officer at the SME department. Prior to joining FMO, Nanno Kleiterp gained experience in development finance in the private sector, while working for nearly 10 years in Peru, Mexico and Nicaragua.
