Company History
Form International was established in 1992 and is seated in The Netherlands. The firm started as a consultancy firm advising the forestry and timber trade sector on the practical implementation of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) of natural forests, forest certification (FSC, PEFC, legal compliance), timber trade and reforestation.
We were involved as the advisor to the first (FSC) certifications in tropical Africa, Indonesia, Eastern Europe and South America. The firm also played a significant role in developing and promoting the adoption of Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) in Africa. Experience in Africa, Southeast-Asia and Latin America with reforestation and forest plantations was gained through project design, establishment, management, and delivery of technical and financial advice.
Form International maintains a strong and special partnership with Form Ghana, SFI (Sustainable Forestry Investments) and SFI Tanzania. Form International initiated a reforestation project in 2001 in Ghana which evolved into the company Form Ghana in 2007. Form Ghana was the first FSC certified plantation company in West Africa and today manages around 20,000 hectares of formerly degraded forest landscapes. Additionally, we initiated a reforestation project in Tanzania in 2013: SFI Tanzania. Two sisal estates of over 9,000 hectares were acquired. On these estates, a combined business model of improved sisal production and greenfield forestry is implemented.
SFI is the holding company of Form Ghana and SFI Tanzania that Form International created in partnership with investors. Form International managed SFI till 2020 when SFI was made independent (after 13 years) to continue on its next growth stage. Form International and SFI continue as partners with Form International providing technical support on various fronts and through co-management of buffer zone and landscape programmes.
Based on 13 years investment and management experience with SFI and almost 30 years of consulting experience Form International is now developing multiple large projects and investments in Africa, Latin America and South East Asia as the need for projects that are well designed, managed and financed is strongly increasing. We hope to be of service to many more investors, project developers and other clients.
Our headquarter is based in Hattem, the Netherlands, in the historical building ‘t Kalverveen at the edge of the Veluwe, one of the largest nature and forest areas in the Netherlands.
